Museum für Angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Art)
The Museum of Applied Art displays its splendid exhibits in the building An der Rechtschule designed by Rudolf Schwarz. Precious works of goldsmiths' art, exquisite furniture and textiles as well as glass, ceramics and porcelain from the most important European manufactories are brought together here. The collection also includes graphic art and photography, fashion, architecture and industrial design. The collection of contemporary design - unique in North Rhine Westphalia - has developed into a star attraction in the last few years.
René Burri – his oeuvre
4. September – 26. September 2010
René Burri is one of the great photographic legends of the 20th century still alive today. The museum will present a retrospective of his work in collaboration with the IPK (Internationale Photoszene Köln e.V.). René Burri successfully developed his own characteristic photographic style and at the same time successfully avoided being “pigeonholed”.

Istanbul Fashion
6. November 2010 – 30. Januar 2011
In this exhibition, the museum will present a representative overview of current fashion design in Turkey and the country’s vibrant, western fashion scene which is mainly centred on Istanbul, Turkey’s cultural capital. The exhibition and the accompanying catalogue will for the first time in Germany present the most important and creative fashion designers in Turkey’s largest metropolis. The creations of the fashion designers are all strikingly original and modern. In the fashion designs they create Turkish designers reconcile the not always opposing poles of history and modernism, tradition and innovation, humanism and cosmopolitanism, philosophy and religion. For all of them, Istanbul is an inexhaustible source of impressions, inspiration, ideas and images.
Ins Wort gesetzt (put into words) – contemporary poetry on the photographs by Robert Häusser
4. Dezember 2010 – 30. Januar 2011
Robert Häusser is regarded as a philosopher among photographers. The concept of the exhibition is unusual in that it combines photography and poetry: 37 renowned poets from different generations have composed a poem on one of the photographs of Robert Häusser’s oeuvre. They each chose a particular motif as a template for their poetic rendition. The photograph and poem are juxtaposed and profoundly interact each other. The exhibition was designed by the Forum Internationale Photographie at the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museums in Mannheim
