A Commitment to Modern Art

Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst am Museum Ludwig

Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst am Museum Ludwig Köln

A passion for contemporary and modern art, dedicated patronage of Museum Ludwig, curiosity about the latest developments on the art scene - that's what motivates the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst am Museum Ludwig, which was founded in 1985 and now has over 600.

The Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst is committed to:

  1. Expanding the collection at Museum Ludwig by making regular acquisitions
  2. Giving Museum Ludwig both material and non-material support
  3. Contemporary art and artists, especially through the Wolfgang Hahn Prize Cologne and the "Jungen Ankauf" (Recent Purchase) programme
  4. Scholarly reflection on art through talks by prime movers on the art scene and by producing our own publications
  5. Supporting projects that mediate art

As a member you will receive a specially tailored Programme, giving rich insights into modern and contemporary art. Our younger members also meet for additional activities.

Freunde des Wallraf-Richartz-Museums und
des Museums Ludwig e.V.

Freunde des Wallraf-Richartz-Museum und Museum Ludwig

Museums need friends. Under this motto, the Freunde des Wallraf-Richartz-Museums und des Museums Ludwig e.V. has appealed over the years to the local citizens and won them over for the museums.

With over 4,600 members, the Freunde is the oldest and largest museum association in Cologne. Its members span the generations and come from all walks of life and social spheres, and all live in Cologne and the vicinity. The Freunde promote new initiatives and projects, and offer a wide range of events relating to the collections and special exhibitions at the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum and Museum Ludwig. Our goal over the last 150 years has been to both experience and promote art.
The main purpose of the Freunde is to give active support to the two museums.

The main purpose of the Freunde is to give active support to the two museums in terms of content, organisation and finances, as for instance:

  1. The series of talks "KunstBewusst"
  2. The initiative jungekunstfreunde
  3. The initiative Kunst trifft Uni
  4. stART - Kunst für Berufstätige (Art for Working People)
  5. Art acquisitions
  6. Publication of the Wallraf-Richartz-Jahrbuchs
  7. Special events and smaller exhibition projects
  8. Trips and outings with a clear connection with art
  9. Regular information on the activities at the two museums

Our members likewise profit from all this, as well as from free membership to the exhibitions at the two museums and events staged by the Freunde. Why not become a member of the Freunde!
