Followed by

The End
USA 1953, director: Christopher Maclaine, OF

Film
USA 1965, director: Alan Schneider, OF

26.1.2012, 8 pm

The Savage Eye
USA 1960, director: Ben Maddow, Sidney Meyer, Joseph Strick, OV French subtitles

A middle-aged woman, divorced and on her own, ends up in Los Angeles. The law of the city: forsaken bodies that stray about the urban cosmos. Thighs are pummelled into athletic shape by grotesque machines, a nose straightened under the plastic surgeon's knife.

9.2.2012, 8 pm

WOMAN IN THE DUNES (Suna no onna)
Japan 1964, director: Hiroshi Teshigahara, OV German subtitles

Not a man from the country, as in Kafka's parable, but from the city; an entomologist searching for rare insects. In an area covered in dunes and with no hope of getting home that night, he finds shelter under a woman's roof. Her hut is surrounded by the massive dunes and is in constant threat of being buried under the sand that
steadily trickles through every crack of her edifice.

23.2.2012, 8 pm

THEOREM
Italy 1968, director: Pier Paolo Pasolini, OV English subtitles

Pasolini's Kafkaesque study of house and hearth in an upper-class Milanese family, which totally loses its grip amid the decor of the villa.

8.3.2012, 8 pm

THE CIRCLE (Dayereh)
Iran 2000, director: Jafar Panahi, OV German subtitles

Jafar Panahi's bitter portrait of adult life for women in today's Iran - surrounded by contempt and segregation. There is no escape from the circle that gives the film its name.

15.3.2012, 8 pm

L'HUMANITÉ
France 1999, director: Bruno Dumont, OV

An 11 year-old girl has been raped and murdered in a humdrum region in the provinces close to the Franco-
Belgian border. Faced with this crime, the village policeman finds himself confronted with far-reaching setbacks. Dumont's intensive film deals with the suffering caused by guilt contexts and how the individual gets entangled in them.

29.3.2012, 8 pm

S21 THE KMEHR ROUGE DEATH MACHINE
(Khmère Rouge)
France / Cambodia 2003, director: Rithy Panh, OV English subtitles

In the Cambodian death camp "S21 Tuol Slemg," over 17,000 people were interrogated, tortured and
murdered under Pol Pot's terror regime. One survivor, the painter Vann Nath, shows us round the porous archive of mass extermination, which even contains photos of every single victim.

12.4.2012, 8 pm

The 10th Jud icial Court : Jud icial Hearings
France 2004, director: Raymond Depardon, OV English subtitles

From May to July 2003, Depardon and his team were granted the extraordinary permission to film the hearings for minor offences in a Parisian court - giving a glimpse into the machinery of justice in expressive shot countershot.
