The pen drawing of this head seems to have been tossed off rapidly; the eyes are simple squiggles, the nose is a U, the mouth is formed by two arcs one above the other, and finally the cheeks and chin are indicated by short curved strokes. Similarly sketchy underdrawings are visible in the heads of the companions in the background, and could indicate that haste was needed when these underdrawings were made.
